“How far you go in life,

Depends on being tender with the young,

Compassionate with the aged,

Sympathetic with the striving,

And tolerant of the weak;

Because someday in life,

You will have been all of these.”

George Washington Carver

I awoke before dawn

To a now frozen earth

It was fifteen below zero

Far too frigid for any mirth

As my coffee now brewed

I gazed out my back window

And there, I soon spotted him

Perched so forlornly in the snow

I soon grabbed my trusty binoculars

Sadly wondering, if he were still alive

Then I recognized this feathered creature

In the frigid Arctic, they somehow survive

Although not much bigger than a sparrow

His kind do wander over the ice and snow

Some even refer to this bird as a ‘Snowflake’

A group of them are called a ‘Drift’ as they go

And now, I wondered if he might be injured

Or if on this bitter morning, he’d lost his way

But soon, his feathered friends came soaring by

They had somehow found him, this sub-zero day

And with a loud ‘chip-chip-cheeri,’ they called him

He gazed skyward, as his tiny eyes filled with glee

This Snow Bunting was no longer lost and all alone

As he flew off, I had another frosted glass memory

And then, it very quickly began to occur to me

How so very self centered, we human beings are

If we were as compassionate to others, as these birds

It would surely be a better world in which we live, by far

Beautiful poem Ed, as well the music so fitting. Yes, we humans are very, very self-centered and lack so much compassion. Thank you for posting this! Blessings always, my friend, Holly

As long as you only have to watch these little guys through that frosted glass, from the inside out, cause going out there is way too cold to do so...e & R

Many a man found himself like that snowflake, and then, when all hope was gone from his soul, his buddies came looking for him.
This poems of yours make me remember Roscoe.

So true, Ed! When I see them in bad weather, I often wonder how Creator made such tiny creatures with such stamina, more so than
we humans who always complaing. Then i realize He made them to be examples for us fools if only we would see it! Your one of the
few who does! Beautiful work!

Yes it truly would Mr. Ed! What a wonder-filled poem! I was right there with you, watching your Snow bunting birdie! We
re a little over forty now! Still, way too chilly for my old bones!
Enjoyed this simple beauty that seems to paint away all that is complex!

Love and Peace~

Ed,

A most beautiful of animals helping their own. If only we could do the same.

When I see a bird outside on these frosty days i wonder how I can persuade it to come in the warmth and stay for the winter months, it doesn't work, as they are to quick to fly away. Thank you for sharing Ed.

How neat! A snow bunting! Cool! Send him our way, and tell him to bring some cold weather here to Texas! (Wouldn't mind some snow or the Northern Lights, either, for that matter! :) ) Well done, Ed; enjoyed~

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. ;D
