A Suicide Note,
From an American Soldier
Nearly 150 American soldiers
Took their own lives last year
The highest suicide rate ever
Our nation should be in tears
Our soldiers are stressed to the limit
From lengthy deployments overseas
And when they finally do return home
Little help from our nation do they see
This war has dragged on longer
Than even massive World War II
Back then, they were treated as heroes
Today, they see little ahead, but the blues
While on duty, they return to war, again and again
And they grow ever more distant from their families
Besides war’s stressors, they contemplate their return
At what they see, they become depressed horrendously
A backlog of 800,000 veteran disability claims
An extremely difficult time finding employment
Not nearly enough help for Post Traumatic Stress
And while away, their homes into foreclosure went
Already, this year, in January of 2009
Nearly 25 soldiers, have taken their lives
War is Hell enough, for any of our valiant troops
And now, what they face at home, adds to their strife
We, as a nation, are dishonoring our soldiers
We must all become advocates, on their behalf
Contact your legislators, and demand some action
This country’s commitment to valor, is fading very fast

I met a young man, back in 1998, he was from Brooklyn, NY. A talented high school student that has the whole world ahead of him. He graduated from college looking forward to a career in theater; acting, singing, performing... but there was another theater he felt compelled to act in, and he was killed by an IED in Afghanastan about three weeks ago, only 25 years old.
A friend of mine attended the memorial service in Washington DC, where his remains were placed, next to his grandfather, a veteran of WW II.
It is a sad and meaningful write.

Here in Sweden we are four War Veterans, we have got in Norway and Sweden more medical treatment than we can hope. Our physical plights aren't ones that disappear with magic pills, but just being treated without red tape make the pain less.
I went away because I didn't want to be found in a dirty alley with a Dear John letter in my pocket.
