“Hold fast to dreams,
For if our dreams die;
Life is a broken wing bird,
That very sadly, cannot fly.”
Langston Hughes
Music: Nature’s Lament
I am usually quite joyous
On this first day of Spring
But I just read a new report
And sadness to me, it brings
The 2009 U.S. State of the Birds Report
Chronicles the woeful decline of our birds
Caused by our garbage and energy production
Urban sprawl and climate change, in our world
This first-of-its kind, scientific, government report
Chronicles a four-decade decline, in their populations
Our feathered friends have now decreased by 40 percent
And many are in peril of extinction, which robs my elation
More than half of prairie bird populations are in trouble
Two thirds of shore bird species, are in a rapid decline
Bird populations in the Arctic, are now suffering terribly
And even in my beloved American forests, birds are not fine
Unbelievably, the many wondrous bird species of Hawaii
Are in the greatest danger of soon, vanishing from our sight
We all have to become very conscious, of our human activities

I also just posted a new article,
It’s now National Wildlife Week;
We must teach kids to revere nature,
If it's a better world for them, we seek.
Hold fast to dreams,
For if all of our dreams die;
Life will be a broken winged bird,
That very sadly, will never fly again.

This one is sad ... again, mankind the ruin of God's creations. But don't despair, a happy little mockingbird greeted the first day of Spring (and my morning) with song, leaping with the joy of just being alive. Uploading a video of it, will link on my poem, Morning Song. Well penned.
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
Wild salmon is almost extinct by overfishing and by escapees from fish farms up to their eyeballs with antibiotics.
The chemicals pouring in the North-seas are affecting the fish that the seas-parrot (lundefugl) that were in the hundred of thousands until they started to die in horrible numbers and eggs were with a shell so fragile that it was impossible to rug them without crushing them.
We have cursed nature with our indifference, nature will us paid for it.
