Some Call It 'Progress'

“It has become appallingly obvious,

That our progress has exceeded,

Our humanity.”

Albert Einstein

Music: All Is Gone

Yesterday was an extremely gorgeous day

So I drove out to a tiny patch of wood

A place, which I still liked to wander

A place, where I still felt pretty good

There was a lovely little creek here

And a small stand, of majestic pine

The air here was still fresh and clean

And the wildlife here, were still fine

Raccoons and chipmunks, lived here

I usually saw several ducks and geese

Several white-tailed deer called it home

I always heard birds, singing in the trees

Yesterday, I never even got out of my truck

About all I could do, was sit there, and stare

The entire patch of wood here, was now gone

I didn’t see one single tree, or a bird, anywhere

Several years ago, half this wood was torn down

For a subdivision, ironically named ‘Forest View’

Now, the other half will become a huge trash landfill

I wouldn’t want to live in that subdivision, would you?

With our skyrocketing human population growth,

And our never-ending non-biodegradable garbage,

Much of our planet will one future day, look like this,

But many human beings will still call this ‘progress.’

I always admire you writing about the nature. I always want to be there with you each time you write that, for I also am in love of the nature as well.

"They call it progress", but the reality is "progless" I think. Fond memories lost in time....

Be always safe,
Karen

So sad Ed, Forest View hey after they destroy the beauty and then crucify it with a trash landfill. Shameful and NOOOOOO I would not want to live anywhere near it. Thank you for sharing.

Progress is inevitable for human life but sadly enough it sometimes inflicts negative impact upon the life of our planet. Hopefully we shall find a solution for this dicotomy

Progress, why that word has started to sound like a four letters one?
We hear of children dying of hunger and yet in Europe are destroying thousands of tons of food because over production.
Progress? someone most be kidding.

Georg

You're right Ed ... we cannot sustain the current world population and be in harmony with nature at the same time. This is certainly not progress.

Love & Light always and in all ways,
Joseph

Real smart people like "Einstein" knew better already in their days.
There Ed is an idea I have, every living species should be issued a birth certificate and death certificate, and it should be public as is with the human population. It should record, all the pertinant data as ours, it should if unecessarely harmed or killed, the killer be prosecuted out of respect for the others life. Wanton destruction, is rampant for we have no respect for the lords creation, reason, we think ourselves more important then anything else, where does this come from I ask? I know you know the answer.
Bless you for bringing more awareness we sure need it, like our coffee every day. Jasmin Horst

Heartbreaking - there will be nothing left for the children, except what's written in history books or in sad poems like this - well done, Ed.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

When they renovated our apartments? They cut down all but like three trees. SHAME.

The city cut down hundreds of trees on my property line(easement) for city sewer and water,,,they could have move out 40 feet and saved them all.... seems so many don't care.

How unfortunate Ed.

So sorry to hear your special place is no more.
Hope you can find another place to reflect and enjoy the peace.

Take care,
Gwendolyn

Its NOT progress, its our human condition in distress...(the Pine Barrens are still there, though that could be temporary too) Ed
