“Gosh, Little Eddie,

It took me eons to tear away from that grand ship,

With my fabulous ancestor on the sail... Sigh.”

A.D. Member and Friend,

Katy Walsvik

Many of us were extremely saddened

When we learned our Katydid was gone

But as she now sails away, off to Valhalla

I can hear her singing an epic Viking song

Katy was extremely proud of her Viking heritage

And she had a very heartfelt love of the Emerald Isle

Her bravado and her sense of humor were wondrous

Her delightful humorous poems always made us smile

She was also a most ardent political commentator

She never, ever backed away from a political fight

She was also a life-long admirer of God’s Creation

Just the sight of a bird or a cat, filled her with delight

Wishing you a most glorious voyage, Katydid

Your friends will miss you, for a very long time

May you find much peace, and joy, and happiness

As you now enter that Grand Hall of Valhalla Divine

Walsvik, Kathy L. 'Katy' – MADISON, WI - Kathy L. 'Katy' Walsvik, age 61, of Madison, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009. She was born on Sept. 10, 1947, in Madison, the daughter of Orvin and Betty Walsvik. Kathy graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1965. She also attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Kathy worked as an interpreter for the deaf, and worked using voice recognition software for Captel. She was also a published poet. Kathy published her book in 2005, which was titled '...and furthermore...' She was a favorite on Author’s Den, and she wrote poetry for almost every family event as a gift.

I am deeply shocked and saddened by this grievous news, Ed, as you know. Katy was the very FIRST person to review me when I arrived at AD as such a shy and diffident novice writer, and it is largely due to her wit, humour and most sincere praise and encouragement that I felt instantly accepted and among friends. How I now regret also that we never pursued our idea of trying to plan an AD get-together in New York all those years' ago when I KNOW for certain sure that Katy would have made the effort and sacrifice to come! If her untimely passing teaches us anything, it is to make the most of every breath that we have, every opportunity that presents itself... and to embrace life with an unstinting fortitude and cameraderie in the face of otherwise "unlovely" circumstances that might assail us in the "other" world we all inhabit outside of the warmth and security of Authorsden. We love you, Katy... and always will. Thank you for all you have given us - of yourself and your spirited words; you spoke often of being the world's worst cook... yet your recipe now binds us into a nutty fruitcake that will last... and I KNOW you're smiling at such a thought! :)) xx Bless you, Dad. And thank you. Kate xx

Although I do not believe I had the pleasure of knowing this lady it sounds like she was indeed a gifted and well loved poet and member of the den so I too bow my pen to her passing.

Met her here on the Den and she encouraged me to keep writing though I had thought of quitting...She was a fine lady & we talked a couple of times, her with her HIGH voice reminding me always of a 12 year old before the change...you will be missed fine lady as He took you quite young, hope we meet someday in the great beyond, then we can have us some fun...Ed & Rufuz

At 61, Katydid was just a baby compared with some of us, and it is a shame that she has been called upstairs, but maybe God was feed up with someone up there and needed a good hand for political discussions.
That she will be missed is a fact, that her spirit went over the Norse mountains and seas before going up for ever we understand, but always the passing of a friend leaves us with a little bit of nagging sadness.
Make them hear up there, Katydid! ! !

Georg

Indeed, she will. News of her passing left me shocked - saddened - our smiling Viking Princess will be missed by those who knew and loved her - including us, here at the Den. God be with her family. Beautiful, moving eulogy, Ed, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. *tears*
