“Never lose an opportunity to see anything that is beautiful.
It is God's handwriting - a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face, every fair sky, every fair flower.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Music: Awakening
I headed out awfully early
For a dawn walk, in the dark
At the very end of my driveway
I soon spotted a tiny piece of bark
As I bent down, to look it over
It moved, and crept up my hand
Not bark at all, but a baby bird
And this one, was oh so grand
And now, from my open palm
It crept up my arm, to my head
And there it sat, in all its glory
So happy, not filled with dread
And soon, it began boldly chirping
“See! See! See!” now very exuberantly
As I slowly ambled over to the old maple
It now slowly crept from my head to the tree
And now, I watched in utter fascination
As it crept back up that old tree, to its nest
What a joyous family reunion now occurred
This hitchhiking infant was home with the rest
This tiny feathered newborn miracle of nature
Had obviously fallen out of its nest in the night
And now, I heard an entire chorus of song above
It was being welcomed home, in dawn’s early light
My tiny new hitchhiking friend is called a Brown Creeper
Its kind slowly creeps up the bark of trees, looking for meals
They have long beaks to root out insects, and also camouflage
Since they blend in with tree bark, they’re quite difficult to see
Never lose an opportunity to see anything that is beautiful.
It is God's handwriting - a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face, every fair sky, every fair flower.
And, in every tiny newborn bird…

What a blessing this poem is! The theme of God's creation touching us and the encounter with the Brown Creeper is an experience in itself.
Thank you for writing about it.

But, maybe, that bird was God telling you that He could match you with an new born bird, anytime you wish to say tanks look up and say it, because you are one of the few He bothers with.
