Ed, I agree with what you have written here. It both angers me and saddens me.

i am so with you-abuse , neglect, irresponsibility to children, animals, nature--where are our souls???

...it does make me cry.....wish I could save every abused animal...and child....you are sooo right...we live in a world of an inhumane lot...they should all be shipped to some island..they deserve each other!

cruelty and neglect have no boundaries and there's certainly no shortage of it ... humanity's indifference is overwhelming ... the "religious" are certainly not excluded ...

Awwww, that poor baby, I see things like that and, as you do, wonder why people treat them that way, or better yet, HOW can they treat them so poorly...it almost seems that these evil people are torturing dogs & cats because they cannot do so to other human beings...I wish I had the wherewithall to help further, but with no job, no money & little space, all I can do is hate this treatment from afar...Ed

The sad fact of life is that some humans do not have any humanity inside their hearts or souls, animal abuse, child abuse, spousal abuse, senior abuse...so much reason for us to lose faith in our fellow human beings but...
we must not lose hope or give in, stronger laws, harsher penalities, better education to our children are all things that will help and our schools and religious systems could be doing a lot more advocacy work in this regard.

I'm so glad you wrote this Mr. Ed. When I see videos like the one you directed us to, or read a poem like yours, I'm ashamed. The dog I have now I rescued from a shelter for abused dogs. She's a little mixed breed and was skin and bones, scared of everything and everybody, wet, shaking and dirty. One look into her eyes showed me a lingering glimmer of trust. Now, four years later, she's the happiest of dogs. She's my best friend, my loyal companion and once again she trusts people and loves life. To anyone who reads this I implore you to adopt an animal from a shelter if you're considering having one.

I totally agree with you Ed,and I understand your anger.As I said before, I'm becoming a recluse not only because of my illness, but because I can't stand what has happened to our culture! We alwas had problems with behavior, but now it is no longer just problems, people have become evil,because they have turned from God,and no longer have His grace. It's a scary time,and will get worse!

No, no excuse for abuse, whatever form it may take - and it may range from dumping them on the side of a road, to negligence, to sheer cruelty. As for the reasons - not excuses - they range from ignorance, to irresponsibility to, again, sheer cruelty. At the dog shelter I collaborate with - which is managed by my sister, Paula - there are about sixty dogs (most of them living there on a permanent basis) that remind us of all those reasons - not excuses - every single day. But they also remind us of... unconditional love, every single day; their own. Yes, unconditional and endless!
Thank you, once more, for speaking on their behalf - and for the loving actions you keep undertaking to make their life - of some of them, at least - better.

OMG! The cruelty of people leaves me ill. Saw a dalmation in the back of a truck parked in front of a convenience store while on vacation. She was emaciated and had this pleading in her eyes. Had another couple who were concerned call to report it as I didn't have a cell phone. Bless your big heart for adopting this poor dog! So sweet and so abused.
My belief is that dogs bear the same responsibility as having a child. If you don't want that responsibility--don't get a dog!

Dear Ed, I am not going to watch the video, I am saturated with enough sorrow from the ones I get from {PETA, the Humane society, IWFA, PMSC, etc, can't take anymore, the God awful problem, if I may suggest, to have only a very few breeders allowed, and have those that are bred, identified at birth, and followed through their lifecycle as we do with humans, so that if such things would occur as they do in the millions now, we could follow up and prosecute the perpetrators of such crimes. It should be simular as abondonment of a child, and severely punished. But as you can see, it's our value system, and guess where it derives from, yes when people going to church, can step over a starving pooch or kitten, what does that tell you, isn't it the reason why the world is in the state it is in?

Such a sad thing, too much abuse and there is no excuse. I agree if one doesn't like dogs...just don't get one...the dogs would be better off this way! Sad video but one that everyone should watch...write on my friend, such a strong advocate for our furry friends, only wish that everyone could see them as friends!

The picture alone says a lot. Karen Lynn is right in suggesting tougher laws against cruelty to animals and bigger fines for those caught, hit them where it hurts most- the pocket. We have imprisonment penalties here for those who continue to kill dogs for "drinking sessions" and many have gone to jail, the dogs rescued and rehabilitated. Sometimes I think men should be the ones "trained" not dogs, as some men are more savage.

I am sick of the abuse too; maybe we ought to mete out the same punishment on those who commit the crime?? Not the best of suggestions, but I have absolutely NO tolerance for those who INTENTIONALLY abuse animals OR children, babies, or women!! NONE!!

Heartbreaking write; keep on speaking out for our animal friends! It's stuff like this that makes me ashamed to be a human being! We haven't learned!! Tragic!!

Sorry PeeWee, can't see the video, maybe we have different system, but here comes a black square picture and it will not start no matter what.
We have had in Scandinavia a few cases of animal mistreatment (two thirteen tears old "girls" poured gasoline and lighted fire on a cat) which got everybody outraged and hit all the Scandinavian papers.
Not only adults are doing it, now the children do it too?!
