Our latest feline resident, Sweetie
Just gave birth, for Mother’s Day
I gaze upon her infants, with awe
Three black kittens, and one grey
Birth truly is a wondrous miracle
Every time I see it, I am amazed
Four tiny and precious feline souls
Have now arrived, for Mother’s Day
All of them blind and deaf, for the next two weeks
So completely reliant, on their mother’s loving care
I sit and watch this new mother, now doting over them
This feline mom is a role model for mothers, everywhere
Whether kittens are born in a fancy mansion, or in an alley
Whether they are born in a big city, or an old barn on a farm
Mothers will remain by their side, night and day, for six weeks
Giving of themselves, so completely, keeping them, out of harm
Birth is the sudden opening of a wondrous window,
Through which you look upon a stupendous event;
For what has happened here? A miracle.
I believe that all life, is miraculous,
Whether it is insect, animal, or man;
And watching any new life, beginning,
For me, is always so inspiring, and grand.
And A Very Happy Mother’s Day,
To Loving Mothers, Everywhere.

Oops! Sweetie just had another kitten,
But this certainly doesn’t ruin my poem;
This one’s a precious black and white cutie,
Perhaps, this one, has already found a home.
And I promised my old brother, Matlack,
That I would name a new kitten, after him;
The grey kitty above will be called ‘Jersey,’
This newborn boy is quite plump, not thin!

He will out eat the others with mama's food,
With his siblings he will never cause a feud,(just like me)
Though as he gets older he may return home at night,
On the lighter side of being stewed...
