“What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight,

What counts is the size of the fight in the dog.”

Mark Twain

This is little ten pound Chiquita

The bravest little canine around

She saved her tiny friend, Rosie

From a cougar a hundred pounds

Little Rosie was in their backyard

When a hungry cougar did attack

The cougar pinned Rosie down

And was about to have its snack

When out rushed brave tiny Chiquita

Who snarled, and stood her ground

The very startled cougar let Rosie go

And back over the fence, did bound

Little Rosie, the tiny terrier mix mutt

Is very fortunate to have such a friend

Dog is often Dog’s Best Friend, as well

Tiny Chiquita would have fought, to the end

And please watch over your own pets

We have killed off a lot of predator prey

Now, predators like cougars and coyotes

Are forced to attack our many pets today

We have also destroyed far too much natural habitat

Many bears, cougars, and coyotes have nowhere to go

So, they now roam housing areas, in their former homes

I know many very sad pet owners, who now miss them so

glad they are both okay, so true, we destroy the habitat and then wonder why they come around and want the cat or dog

Wonderful write Ed, I enjoyed it
Dogs are amazing animals and if you let them, can bring very much joy to us humans

All animals are precious but dogs are my favorite house pet
They do funny things and sure can make me laugh
Have a great day

You go girl!! Chiwows crack me up but they are fierce little buggers. We too have occasional but growing stories of hungry predators claiming pets. It's a shame on us problem. Patrick

Keep them indoors and close at hand. We have a number of coyote that roam through here in the dead of night, sometimes they get just a bit too close to the house, but guess they are curious...

Be always safe,
Karen

Hi Mr. Ed, Too much natural habitat has been destroyed and is still being destroyed. Where can these creatures go, when they have no homes to go to?!!! Thank you for sharing this write...

Ed, you are so right on here. We just lost my son's rescued 11 and half year old greyhound, his best friend Patty cakes is very sad that he has left this earth. Dogs stick together, and will fight for them. I love this poem/story, you make us always think and wake up and have a lesson.
Pray for our greyhound Gus, he was a great boy and friend to all of us.

Much peace, love, and light,
Amber "V"

What a marvelous story to wake up to, yes they do, and their courage is immense, that is what I should have called my little five pound, courage, just to be born that small is courage enough. I this big hunk has learned a lot from her and all these precious creatures, I have a little chikadee nesting in one of my birdhouses and it will go after a cackerl to protect it's young if it comes to close.
Bless you and thank you! Jasmin Horst

Dogs love unconditionally, doesn't matter what we look like, how we treat them. If in trouble, they will fight - little Chiquita is a pit in disguise. :) Good for her, and for you - well done, Ed. Love the music accompanying this one.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
