Inspired by an Ojibwa Creation Story,
And The Efforts Underway Today,
To Eradicate Our Remaining Wolves.
-North America is called Turtle Island-
When our Mother Earth was now newly created
Turtle Island arose from the deep water in the mud
Its vast underground river system became her veins
Water in her many blue streams and rivers, her blood
On the surface of this plush new paradise called Turtle Island
There were four sacred directions – north, south, east, and west
Gitchie Manitou, the Creator, soon took earth, wind, fire, and water
Creating original man, and lowering him down to begin his life quest
Creator instructed original man to walk amongst Mother’s beauty
And to name each of her many land features, animals, and plants
He also created Wolf to be man’s companion on this epic journey
So these brothers set off together, viewing Mother’s vistas so grand
After their epic journey together had finally been completed
And each and every thing on Turtle Island now had its own name
Gitchie Manitou, the Creator, instructed man and wolf to now separate
But to live in peace, to respect Turtle Island, and to never cause Him shame
Thus, both Original Man and Brother Wolf soon began to multiply, and to prosper
The Creator, Gitchie Manitou, was now very pleased with their lifestyles and their clans
But soon, a strange new breed of men arrived on Turtle Island in gigantic ships of wood
Both Man and Wolf were hunted, robbed, and killed - desecrating Creator’s Ancient Plan

As a child I had a wolf pup as a pet, I found him in a wood pile and have no idea what happened to the mother
