“Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh,

Seeing no one else had come;

And a bell was ringing in the village square,

For all the rabbits on the run.

“And the jailor man,

And sailor sam,

Were searching every one.”

Paul McCartney,

Band On The Run

Yet another dumped dog

Abandoned, in an old park

Several of us, were chasing him

Sadly, giving up, each day, at dark

We try to catch abandoned pets

Before Animal Control is able to

They callously haul them off to jail

Within a few days, their life is through

We even enlisted the help of some kids

Who can run much faster than any of us

But none of us could corral or catch him

This abused little canine, had lost all trust

We soon named this little dog, Rabbit

Now, so scared of humans, he would run

We chased after him, for nearly two weeks

Until losing sight of him, believing he was done

But unknown to several of us little Rabbit pursuers

This tiny, starving, dog had sought refuge in a yard

An elderly widow who lived there, took pity on him

And he began trusting again, which touched our hearts

This compassionate woman, although she has little money

Soon began feeding Rabbit, and took him inside her home

She has now notified us, that little Rabbit is most welcome

And I doubt now, from her side, this little Rabbit will roam

And, several of us animal loving little Rabbit pursuers

Have collected some doggy treats, and something for her

We hope and pray that these two find happiness, together

And I best end this poem, my eyes have now begun to blur

Well, all the pursuers drew a joyous sigh,

When they learned Rabbit’s race was done;

And shouts of joy, in our old village square,

For a most wondrous friendship, had begun.

Feed them and they shall come...this I have experienced over the years. Next, they understand the love and tenderness given them, knowing they have found Home. Blessings to the new Mom of li'l Rabbit!

Ed,

This is such an endearing piece. So many animals are unwanted and in shelters. God Bless You for finding Rabbit a home. Remember, cats are just as unwanted. I have several unwanted "fur balls", they don't all get along, but we're working on that.
Peace and love.

What a heartlifting story, Ed, just when I really needed to hear one. Bless you for your beautiful heart of gold. You are a tribute to humanity, my friend. The world could learn so much about the way humans "are supposed" to behave toward each other and every living creature we are blessed to share this earth with. Thank you for all that you do.

Hugs,
Anna
