I like to greet the new year
In a favorite, natural, place
So, I head for old snowy creek
It always puts a smile on my face
And here, I now wait in silence
For a new dawn, of a new year
And here, I pray for a good one
Filled with happiness and cheer
And, as I await this brand new day
The snowy forest now begins to stir
The forest creatures begin to awaken
As a brand new year begins to unfurl
First, I hear the very unmistakable caw
Of a wise old crow, perched high in a tree
Then, I hear the unmistakable morning call
Of my old feathered friend, a tiny chickadee
Soon, I hear a familiar stirring in the brush
And there I spot a doe with two tiny fawn
And now, birds, and deer, and human being
All silently pause, to take in, this new dawn
I know not if these wondrous forest creatures
Realize this snowy morn heralds in a new year
But I feel privileged to be here with them today
As this brand new day fills each of us with cheer
Far too many of Earth’s glorious natural places
Are now vanishing, much too quickly, these days
I hope and pray I’ll greet the next year here, as well
Places like snowy creek, revitalize me, in many ways
This New Year’s Day,
Is Every Man’s Birthday;
And, How We All Choose
To Live Life, Begins Today.
