U.S. slaughterhouses were shut down
After tireless effort, three years ago
But, our U.S. horses still aren’t safe
Now, carted across borders, they go
Our government now sells America’s wild mustangs
To buyers, who now ship them to Canada and Mexico
They now endure agonizing hours, in cramped trucks
To be butchered for dinner - to the slaughter, they go
Healthy, young, even pregnant, American wild horses
Are now crying out for help, in complete terror and agony
Enduring many hours in these trucks, with no food or water
So some foreign national can enjoy his horse steak with glee
Always some loophole is found, to make money
Always some government official, who lies to us
Wild horses are rounded up ‘for adoption’ they say
When will we American citizens, finally - wake up?
The extremely sad fact is that not enough people want to adopt them
And that corporate cattle ranchers now want them off Our Public Land
Our elected officials are protecting corporations, not America’s wild horses
There was a time in our nation, when preserving national treasures, was our plan
Urge Congress to Once Again Protect Our American Horses
The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act (H.R. 503/S. 727) will prohibit the barbaric slaughter of American horses for human consumption, including the transport of our horses to Mexico and Canada for this purpose.
Please write, call, or e-mail your Senators and Representatives, Today, urging them to pass this legislation:

Even though all three foreign-owned slaughter plants in the U.S. have closed, American horses are still being subjected to intense suffering and abuse through transport and slaughter across our borders. This new bill would put an end to this cruel practice.
The Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act prohibits the knowing and intentional possession, shipping, transporting, purchasing, selling, delivering or receiving of a horse for slaughter. The inhumane transport over extremely long distances, combined with the horrifying methods of killing and difficulty of stunning equines prior to slaughter, are unacceptable conditions and must be halted immediately.
I urge you to co-sponsor H.R. 503/S. 727, to finally stop American horses from being slaughtered for human consumption.
