An Extremely Sad Follow-up To My Last Posted Poem;

A Horrendous Indictment Against The Nation I Call Home.

“All over the world, the wildlife that I write about is in grave danger;

It is being exterminated by what we call the ‘Progress of Civilization.’”

Gerald Durrell

Music: All Is Gone

The very last Jaguar is already - gone

Very recently killed, outside of Tucson

Only two or three Mexican Lobo Wolves

Now still survive; and soon, they will be gone

A horrendous new campaign has now begun

Timber Wolves are being gunned down, today

All across the Rockies, and at Yellowstone Park

They, too, are very quickly reaching their last days

Out on our plains, Prairie Dogs are being poisoned

So we can build more subdivisions and shopping malls

And, many Birds of Prey, are eating these poisoned rodents

Which will most certainly, bring agony and death, to them all

Our few remaining Wild Mustangs, are now being rounded up

So they can be hauled to slaughterhouses in Canada and Mexico

We, as a nation, have decided, there is no longer room for them

We are even killing off, the last remaining herd of Wild Buffalo

Our once treasured Dolphins, are now being murdered

Because they are eating ‘our’ very rapidly dwindling fish

Even the few remaining Whooping Cranes, are being killed

We seem to be fulfilling some sort of sick Animal Death Wish

And down in Florida, the Panther is in dire trouble

Less than one hundred Panthers still exist in that state

Several have recently been slaughtered, on its highways

And it won’t be long, before we as a nation, seal their fate

These Panthers are among the most endangered species in the world

Instead of helping them survive, speeding cars turn them into roadkill

They are rapidly running out of safe havens, amidst our endless sprawl

And I sadly wonder when the last one dies, if our nation will be thrilled

The ‘Endangered Species Act,’ was supposed to protect all of them

But today in our nation, its citizens don’t care about wildlife welfare

And one day soon, because of our callousness towards wild creatures

It will be only ‘us’ and our artificial, concrete, lifeless, nation out there

Twenty Four Panthers were shot down, or run over, last year;

When they are gone, I wonder how many will shed even one tear.

Ed, it never ceases to amaze me how cruel and uncaring some people can be.

Such a sad shame that so many don't care, therefore they will be a long time memory.

Yea what is this American vendetta against "wild" wildlife, especially out West and in Alaska, but here at home too? SHAME-FULL! Isn't it enough that our own lifestyles and massive population are destroying animals and bio-systems worldwide? Must, we also murder them? I just don't get it anymore. I'm getting fatigued on hoping and caring wildlife will survive...

Seal their fate. What about the Alaskan Seals, too.
The old Jungle is giving way to the concrete jungle.
We'll have preservation parks of what parks looked like, full of bonsai trees showing, in miniature, how nature used to be.

I would shed many tears if any of these species become extinct. I'm almost ashamed to call myself human with these acts people are committing. These are serious issues that need to be addressed and not supported or ignored. I'm horrified at the inhumanity of man.

Yes Georg said it well enough, if you haven't seen the movie Earthlings, have a look. You know what really makes me wonder, it's the absense of real intelligence and courage of those you'd think would have a great measure of it, and of course the lack of moral insight, let's start of with the presidents, prime ministers, etc, and work our way down, it's scary isn't it, I mean what's running our countries. OH I bet they'll have crocodile tears, once they are all gone, they're good at that arent' they, they might even hire scientist with billions of your money, trying to reconstitute them.
It's all a mighty Ego trip by most of them , feelings, what feelings?
Bless You! Jasmin Horst

PeeWee, the Endangered Species Act was decreed as a Political Window Dressing to keep off their backs annoying people like you, and Jasmin and many others that think animals have rights...oops! they have!!!
