I was wandering through the forest
Rejoicing in the snowy winter season
When I came upon, a life-long friend
A tree Nature provides, for many reasons
The Juniper is a friend - to man, animal, and bird
It’s a tree that provides company, shelter, and food
And, whenever I spot a Juniper, on my travels all about
I find that this friend soon puts me in a very good mood
In the Spring, it provides nesting areas for many types of birds
In the Summer, it provides shade when the Sun becomes too hot
In the Fall, many types of migratory birds can be found resting in it
And in the Winter, this Juniper can be a life-saver, offering quite a lot
If you are ever lost in the wilderness, the Juniper is there, to provide its bounty
Its many berries are life-sustaining - for famished men, hungry birds, and beasts
Native Americans revered the ancient Juniper for its numerous medicinal remedies
Eating its berries, and making a tea from its twigs, can be quite a little gourmet feast
About 55 species of this magnificent tree can be found all across our planet
And about a dozen species, can be located right here, in these United States
The Juniper is quite hardy, and can easily be planted around home and garden
And now, after penning this, for next Spring’s planting season, I can hardly wait
