In Loving Memory of My Mother,

Who Passed Away, Last Monday;

But Somehow, I Sense Her Presence,

I Believe She’s Visiting With Me, Today.

“Good-night! Good-night! as we so oft said,

Beneath this roof at midnight, in the days

That are no more, and shall no more, return.

Thou hast taken up thy lamp and gone to bed;

I stay a little longer, as one stays

To cover up the embers that still burn.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I sit here now, long past midnight

In this, her former northern home

Silently gazing, at her photograph

My teardrops, falling on this poem

The woman, who had given me -- life

The dear mother, who had loved me so

The wife, who had so loved her husband

Now, is gone - I knew someday, she’d go

But the sadness in my soul won’t leave

With realization, that she won’t return

So many memories of her, now linger

To speak with her, once more, I yearn

She left her home here, four years ago

Deciding, she craved the southern sun

I had always hoped, that she’d return

But now, her days on Earth, are done

And, it’s not very much consolation to me now

That I had visited her, on her very last birthday

We two sat and we chatted, about many things

Realizing our lives had changed, in many ways

We laughed, recalling some fond memories

We cried, remembering some that were blue

We sat, gazing at each other, for quite awhile

Then we spontaneously whispered, ‘I love you’

Then we kissed and we hugged,

And we both said our Fare-wells;

Good Night, My Dearest Mother,

In my heart, you shall always dwell.

Good-night! as we so oft said,

Beneath this roof at midnight,

In the days that are no more,

And that shall no more, return.

Thou hast taken up thy lamp,

And gone on up to heaven;

But I stay, a little longer.

Good Night, Dear Mother,

Good Night…

"Good Night, Dear Mother" is breathtakingly beautiful..

As is your heart, Mr. ED. And that, obviously being, a reflection of the mother who loved you so well.

Be encouraged, that she will remain alive in your heart, until the day of your Heavenly Reunion!

Now, the LORD bless you and give you His peace.

Love&hugs, Rhonda

Though I am sorry for your loss, this incredible poem is testament to the beauty of your life and how you've chosen to meet loss from death. This poem is a 10! I could not, after such loss, put my works in such stirring, clear verse. And the way you use the Longfellow quote is just an awesome ending of impact that touches us all. The hardest part of my life was from April 2005 after the death of Mother to recently, despite losing my Dad and 2 best cats, her loss was the hardest pill to swallow life gave me so far... Seek solace in your great "North Woods" and your walks with your animal friends

The worse feeling and the biggest price to pay. The torture of grief.
It is a lonely road to travel. But a road we all have to travel many times. But the lose of your life giver, best friend and repeated memories of sunny happy days is a heavy-load.

I feel for you Ed. It is the worse bloody agony on Gods Earth. The only poem that helped me was... ...and I hope it does you a tad was.

You can shed tears that she is gone
or you can smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left.

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she’s gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she’d want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

When wordsmith's can't find words to say
Not for block or blank of thought
When simple sadness trancends all
And emotions become distraught
These are times to look within
To remember better days
For you know in your heart
Now forever apart
How she loved you in so many ways.

So Sorry Ed.

In the far distance as we see it, and in the nearest, your heart, there is your Mom, not gone, just travelled another mile, maybe there are no phones in that place, but the heart and soul always knows how to communicate, in since she is in your heart and soul always, there'll be no long distance charges that apply, and the line is always open, Hugs dear friend, and my deepest condolences!

Ed, when someone so loved departs from us, anything we hear can soften destiny hard punches, but on hearing those words will make you aware that the room is not empty, that you aren't alone and that if you wish there will be, always, a friendly shoulder to catch those tears.
Gold bless you and your mother, my friend.
