Bluebirds On A Box

“I’m a bluebird, I’m a bluebird,

I’m a bluebird, I’m a bluebird,

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah.”

Paul McCartney and Wings,

Bluebird

I was feeling kind of blue

So I headed out for a stroll

I needed some sign of Spring

Winter, was really getting old

When I was a young child, long ago

I saw and heard quite a few bluebirds

They would flock, to our old backyard

My grandmother’s own little bird world

My mother liked to collect bluebird statues

I think they reminded her, of childhood days

I have always loved, listening to bluebird songs

These tiny creatures, enchanting in so many ways

These days, I sadly don’t see too many of them

Yet another species of bird, now in great decline

So, when I do spot one now, on my walk-a-bouts

It makes me feel good; these little birds are divine

I joyously happened upon a pair, as I was out on my stroll

These two were standing on a wooden box, made for them

I happily stood watching them, as they sang so very merrily

The song they were singing, brought memories without end

“Cheer, Cheer, Cheer, Cheer, Cheerful!”

They now sang together, so obviously in love

Just the sight and sound of them, had cheered me

And for this encounter, I thanked the Lord Above

These delightful bluebirds are in decline, because of us

We have robbed them, of so much of their needed habitat

If you want to help them, buy or construct a Bluebird Box

And perhaps, you’ll soon hear a very lovely song, like that

“Cheer, Cheer, Cheer, Cheer, Cheerful!”

Their lovely song made me feel good

And, it brought back happy memories

As I continued on my walk to the wood

One of my favorite birds, and it's been a few years since I've seen one. The grosbeaks here are gathering for their move north. Patrick

LOL.Kate and that song. There never have been bluebirds over here. I've never understood that song. Unless it meant our boys had as much chance of winning as seeing Bluebirds over Dover's chalk cliffs.
Amazing and mature way to link the birds with mum.
As the Tommies kinda sang. Pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and cheer, cheer, cheer.
Always cherish the happy memories. They are such a gift, buddy boy.

Wish you lived closer, we could do walks together as I am getting stronger in the walking department and I could learn about all the animals from you directly rather than reading about them...Find Peace, my brother...ED

Funny, I was thinking of bluebirds yesterday... Vera Lynn and her Bluebirds Over The White Cliffs of Dover... I don't think I have EVER seen one. I like the connection between the feelings you have for the birds and your dear Mom's love of them... a cherished moment shared between you at this time, perhaps. Ed, I'm so sorry for your loss and your pain. But when we love, the depth of pain in the loss is equal and they form part of the whole. May your shared love and nurture of beauty and the environment bind you together always and be more and more healing every day, especially as spring now advances. "Cheer, Cheer; Cheer, Cheer... there'll be no mourning today, d'ya hear?!" (yep, still bossing it, i'm afraid!!! as mothers do!!) Love you, Dad xxxx May her sunshine light your path xxx

Ed, this is a beautiful poem although kind of melancholy.

"These days, I sadly don’t see too many of them
Yet another species of bird, now in great decline"
We must watch for we may be next.
God bless,

"I needed some sign of Spring

Winter, was really getting old" I feel the same way. Thanks for the information. I am the Director of a 4-H program, this would be a good project for the kids, to build a bluebird box.

The angels are winging it in your neighbourhood, still to cold for them up here, but it won't be long, and I'll hear their song too, in the meantime I'll listen to the one singing inside.
