No trek to New Mexico is complete for us
Without yet another excursion, to Santa Fe
Founded in the year 1610, by the Spaniards
The city of Santa Fe, is 400 years old, today
And the heart of Santa Fe, is its glorious Plaza
Originally designed, by King Philip II, of Spain
It marked the termination of the old Santa Fe Trail
Which ran all the way here, from the Midwest plains
My spouse and I love wandering this historic plaza
I look for history books; she loves turquoise jewelry
Many Native American artists sell their fine wares here
And, both of us really love Santa Fe’s southwest cuisine
According to my spouse, the best chili peppers in the world, are here
Every time that we visit Santa Fe, we stock up on chili pepper powder
We have really grown very fond of it, the hotter and spicier, the better
Using it when preparing eggs, salads, meat dishes, soups, and chowders
And, no trip to Santa Fe is complete without a stop
At the captivating Loretto Chapel’s winding staircase
Built without a single nail, by a mysterious old carpenter
The belief that this man was really St. Joseph, persists today
No trek to New Mexico is complete for us,
Without yet another excursion, to Santa Fe;
