My heart now breaks, just a little more
With just about each and every day, now
The plight of America’s pets, is Horrendous
We all must begin to help some way, somehow
Just about each and every day, these horrific days
I get another message, about another homeless pet
“Ed, do you know anyone at all, who can take this one?
We have run out of people, and there’s no one to help yet.”
I’ve just received another message, about this sweet little girl
Starving, pregnant, and so very cruelly dumped, on the streets
The shelter that she was carted off to, is, of course, overflowing
They euthanize pregnant, unwanted dogs - no matter how sweet
The homes of about everyone I know who still care about animals
Just like mine, are all overflowing, with discarded and abused pets
Thousands and thousands of them, are being abandoned, then killed
And so very sadly, in these pitiful economic times, we see no relief yet
Yet, when my spouse drags me to a shopping mall to purchase something
I see many heartless people, happily purchasing pets, at a puppy mill store
They joyously fork out, hundreds and hundreds of dollars, for a new puppy
While Sweet Little Girl, and her yet unborn offspring, will soon be ‘no more’
For God’s Sake, please spay and/or neuter, any and all animals, in your own home
And, if you want to help us alleviate the pain and suffering of countless dogs & cats
For God’s Sake, please tell everyone you know to Adopt – Not Shop, for a new pet
Or millions and millions of sweet little girls just like this one, will soon die – just like that
Nearly 7 Million Dogs and Cats,
Every Year, Are Now, Homeless;
Only About 40 Percent Are Adopted,
And Cruel, Lonely Deaths, Await The Rest.

To be of service to them, whenever they require it.”
