We are Suffocating Our Planet in Garbage, Unbelievably Fast.

25 Billion Plastic Water Bottles Purchased
Just this year alone, in these United States
They are used once, then just tossed away
Into a landfill, or into Earth's water, their fate
Only about 20 percent of them, are re-cycled
The other 80 percent, are suffocating our planet
But most of us, will only drink our water ‘in plastic’
Somehow, we believe it’s a right we’ve been granted
If our discards are carted to a humongous landfill
They’ll remain there, for many thousands of years
If they are simply tossed, like so many millions are
They will end up in our oceans, yet we shed no tears
Whether tossed into Mother Earth’s belly, or onto her waters
They cause horrendous damage to environment and to animals
Studies have shown that bottled water isn’t even better than tap
Yet most of us, today, don’t give a damn about any of this, at all
Each and Every Day, on my many walkabouts upon this sad planet of ours
I watch adults, teenagers, and children, callously tossing plastic bottles away
Many of them don’t bother searching for a garbage receptacle to toss them into
I see them being discarded on streets, in forests, by rivers, lakes, and ocean bays
What callous, foolish, inconsiderate guests we are, on Mother Earth’s planet
We can’t even bother to pick up our own garbage, to keep her clean and safe
We spend five times more, for water in plastic - that’s no better than from a tap
As we pollute our planet, killing its inhabitants – what a really sad 40th Earth Day

Meanwhile your yesterday's article has me re-inspired to not buy even one plastic container IF I can find a glass or carton alternative or do without the food product. Also it must at least be truly recyclable, which means around here only really PET #1 or #2. So I am now swearing off of yogurt (normally an OK thing to eat) I can't see why if milk is sold in #1 bottles why yogurt must be sold in #5 which everybody throws out. And those tops! Thy do definitely end up in the ocean. We need a Leonard Decaprio (big Hollywoood Star) to stand up for national legislation that all plastic containers must at least be actually recylced. Not just putting numbers on the bottom...
Otherwise people MUST vote by NOT buying the product until the packaging is sane!
