Spring should be a time of great joy
In our Gulf Coast’s saltwater marshes
Instead, it’s become the saddest of times
And for them, life now, will be the harshest
Thousands of weary, migrating birds
Looking for safe haven, resting stops
Thousands of mating, and nesting, birds
Following Earth’s ancient biological clock
Five years ago, it was also the very saddest of times
When Hurricane Katrina, had devastated their world
Now, instead of Mother Nature, acting so very cruelly
We human beings have caused a new nightmare to unfurl
Thousands of thousands of birds will be adversely affected
Thousands of thousands of them will soon, be mired in oil
Thousands of them, will not be able to nest, and reproduce
Thousands of them, will not find any food, in oil-tainted soil
Five years ago, I and many others wept, on our ravaged Gulf
As we found left behind dogs and cats, covered in oily muck
And hundreds of us, did everything we could, to ‘de-oil’ them
Scooping them out of oil, using boats, canoes, and transport trucks
The National Audubon Society, has already put out a call for assistance
They are asking for donations and volunteers, to help the oil-covered birds

This time, it was not Mother Nature, it was we humans, who oiled their world

Compared to the massive Norwegian and British Oil-rigs on the North Seas, the ones on the Gulf seems to be screaming for another a la Exxon Valdez catastrophe.
It could have been prevented by thinking ahead not only profits!

I've been against Off Shore Drilling from Day One for this very reason. And I'm mad at Obama that he even opened the door a crack to this kind of reckless insanity.
