“I’ve never seen a wild thing feel sorry for itself;
A small bird will fall frozen dead from a bough,
Without ever having felt sorry for itself.”
T.S. Elliot
Death, is part of Life
The philosophers say
I’ve seen lots of death
I saw more, yesterday
On a walk in the wood
With my old pal, Turbo
We came upon a dead cat
Its sight now saddened us so
It was a courageous little female feline
Who had perished, protecting her young
She had been attacked, by a starving coyote
Fighting for her babies, whose lives had just begun
Turbo and I now paused on our walk, to bury her
It was the least we could do for this courageous cat
As we both sadly stood over her hasty burial mound
We heard an extremely muffled cry – What was that?
Good old Turbo quickly began sniffing all around
And, he soon uncovered a tiny, starving, wild thing
Miraculously, one of momma cat’s infants, was alive
We just never know, what a walk in the wild, may bring
I scooped up this furry, frightened, little wild thing in my arms
Good old Turbo, Wild Thing, and I, now headed back on home
I hope I’m as courageous as his mother was, when my time comes
My many walks in the wild, often inspire some type of nature poem
Death, is part of Life,
The philosophers say;
I’ve seen too much death,
I saw more, just yesterday.
And this is the second tiny orphan,
That I have now named ‘Wild Thing;’
I hope that he lives a long, happy life,
But we never know, what life may bring.
