It seems to me, like it was only just yesterday
When a tiny kitten adopted me, in a parking lot
I was on a job, down in Montgomery, Alabama
It was an August evening, so very humid and hot
He came bounding right up, dancing at my feet
And soon, he hopped right inside my rental car
Before I knew it, he and I, were on an airplane
Little Monty, had a real hankering, to travel far
My spouse immediately fell in love with him
She soon began calling him her black panther
How he now loved, to stretch out, on her lap
With his deep, loving, totally contented, purrs
Our tiny Monty soon became our affectionate Big Monty
And, he always helped welcome new orphans, to our place
His new best friend, we called Fat Louie, had arrived one day
They so quickly bonded; both now, had a big smile on their face
But much too quickly, both old age and diabetes, came a calling
Now, our Monty Boy never fussed, about his daily shots of insulin
Both Fat Louie, and our good old Turbo Dog, took good care of him
But we all knew deep in our hearts, it was a battle Monty couldn’t win
Our dear old Monty Boy, has left us now
There’s a very somber silence, in our home
Thick wet tears, keep falling down my face
As I’m sadly attempting, to write, his poem
Monty taught me much about love and courage
As each of my many animal friends, always do
Losing one of the truly vibrant souls in our home
Has today, given everyone around here, the blues
It seems to me, like it was only just yesterday,

I still get tears in my eyes when I pass our Rosie's tiny grave. She passed more than ten years ago.
Bless you for being the loving couple you are. Won't be the same, but Monty will always be with you. Is too good a friend not to.

The day we had to put our collie to sleep brings back these feelings yet as I held his head he knew he was with his master and the injection was so soothing I thought, yes, when the time comes that's what I'd wish. Cats and dogs do not live as long as we do, so if we have cared for them during their short lives, they are grateful. Well Mr Ed. I shed a tear for you today.
