I think you're right Ed....and it's not just Americans who really don't care....EVERYONE is so caught up in their own lives that until something as devastating as this hits them over the head, they can't even think outside of themselves. The whole oil industry, not just B.P. should be called Big Parasite for Big Petroleum--An American picture of dangerous incompetence! I say increase the liability to 100% and they will be a lot more careful!

Deeply touching and a wake up call to all mankind. When shall we know that there are plenty of alternative sources of energy that are cheap, safe and environmentally friendly.

How long will it be before we are no longer known as the Blue Planet. I am glad (or hopeful) I may not be around to see the gushing bowels of our Earth erupt. But if we - the people - don't lessen our usage of refined oil, the "drill, baby, drill" will not stop. How many of us are willing to cut our gas consumption by half? Today??
Now there are reports of Natural Gas Drilling "gook" getting into private water wells! What are the results of watersheds around the world?? Discouraging...

I know this is minor compared to what is happening in the Gulf, but for the local environment, it is very devastating. It is a stark reminder of the death and destruction to our environment that we are perpetrating on ourselves.

it is indeed a horror!

From death, comes death, black as it is, and rotten, if we keep on using this black death, soon, in an other billion years or so, someone else might use the black mass left over by us, after we killed ourselves and everything with it. There might be many that care, but all they do is pray, and consume, instead of taking action.

GREED is all it is, Ed...these companies want to make more and more money and the enviroment is the least of their worries...hopefully time will change that, but unfortunately I doubt it...e

One bright spot amongst the muck and mire. Here in Oregon, we have withstood the desires of Northern Star Natural Gas, a company baseed in Houston, Texas. Northern Star wanted to build a plant along the Columbia River, about 30 miles east of the Pacific Ocean, for their tanker ships to drop of LNG, fortunately the protestors beat them down. If they had been successful in building the plant, they to would have built a pipeline going from Washingto State, through Oregon, and into California. This would have been disastrous to the wetlands, the eco system on the whole and cause statewide property damage. A small victory, but a victory none the less.

Even more Americans do care but don't see an answer to the problem. We need to educate these people. My Dad loved to fish. He is with God now but he would be horrified by what he would see now.
Let' pray to God for the strength to make some noise. Keep this writing campaign going.
