Mother's Rampage

“The most violent storms and tornadoes and hurricanes,

Will become more common, as Earth’s climate warms.”

Scientists at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)

Mother’s been on a terrible rampage

Wave after wave of storms, last night

No sleep for any of us here, once again

There now seems to be, no end in sight

As I stood in our backyard, at first light

I saw dozens of birds, flying fast, away

“Not a real good sign,” I told my spouse

“I think we’re gonna get pounded, today.”

The rain and the wind, started soon after that

By afternoon, tornado sirens, shrieking again

As we all huddled in the dark, in the basement

Our basement started flooding, water with no end

Our dogs were frantic, thunderclap after thunderclap

Our cats were now huddled up together, under the bed

As my spouse and I grabbed buckets and mops and rags

The torrential rains kept coming and coming, with no end

By morning’s light, we could see all the downed trees

And all the debris, strewn all around our neighborhood

The summer ahead, of 90 degree days and violent storms

For both humans and animals, isn’t going to be very good

And now, these scientists are predicting a terrible hurricane season

Something our oil-mired Gulf Coast residents, surely don’t deserve

I sadly wonder how much of this, has been brought on, by ourselves

I also sadly wonder, if from Mother’s Rampage, we will finally learn

Mother’s been on a terrible rampage,

Wave after wave of storms, last night;

No sleep for any of us here, once again,

There now seems to be, no end in sight.

Yes between thunder and lighting, earthquakes here in Canada and now tornados...it does make one wonder if it is her way of saying I am not happy.

Oh geez, another complainer...just like J. Allen down south...we got some of those storms you got, not tornadic to be sure, thankfully, but it rained and lighteninged and thundered really bad, but I just slept right through most of it...;-) e

Beautiful and frightening. I like wild weather, every now and then, as long as no one's in danger. I feel the power of Mother's Rampage. Well written, Ed. Stay safe.

Yeah she's gettin mad alright, we had a small rumble of a five earthquake under my feet yesterday, I didn't know what was happening, stood on the backyard grass, then spread my bony legs to steady myself, my first thoughts were, that the guy with horns was coming up, and I had no holy water in my pockets..........

I hope that things calm down for you soon, Ed ... been thinking of you when I hear that the SPC keeps you in this stormy pattern day after day after day ... here, we can't GET a drop of rain. Maybe today. Stay safe, my friend, and thank God you HAVE a basement. We don't in my part of The Alley!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

You know I love that piccy ... well done.

I am here to say that "Mother" is treating us very well, here in Portland, Or., thank you. Blue sky, temps in the mid 70's and we should enjoy this weather through the weekend... I hope things clear up for you soon.

Cheers,
Dan

No truer words have been spoken. Mother's Rampage, hits the heart of a mother earther, and of course so good to know that you are out of harms way!

Stay dry and keep on writing, you make a difference!

Maybe she's finally had enough, Ed! While tornados and hurricanes are not the norm here in eastern Canada, we ARE on the Atlantic coast, and as in 2003 when Juan came ashore in Halifax, we certainly aren't immune to them. Glad you and your family made out all right in the storm.

Mother Earth always has been a moody one (PMS?) Primary Mother's Sour (LOL) but seriously, where we were no complaining when the mile thick ice covering our turf started to melt? Where the Neandertal wood fires the culprits?...just asking, don't kick the messenger!
