Our recent bout of thunderstorms
Have caused many animals, to run
Many of us, chasing frightened pets
Terrifying thunderclaps, are never fun
And now, they face another great ordeal
Booming fireworks, on the Fourth of July
Every year, so many terrified pets, rush off
Many of them are lost; some of them will die
Please don’t take them to your Fireworks Show
Please don’t leave them in your backyard, alone
Please don’t toss firecrackers, anywhere near them
Each and every July 4th, I get many calls on my phone
“We’ve got a dozen cats and dogs, hiding by the creek;
We’ve spotted ten terrified pets, racing down the street;
We really need your help; we’ve got to catch them quickly,
Or another terrible tragedy just like last year, they’ll soon meet.”
A safe, comfortable, room, inside your home, is the best place for them
Surrounded by loved ones, toys, treats, and music, on the radio or the T.V.
Although most human beings love the fireworks, and know it’s a celebration
I’ve seen too many traumatized pets, and none of their eyes are filled with glee
Someone tossed a firecracker, at one of my neighbor’s dogs
Now, every Fourth of July, this poor dog, is a basket case
He must be tranquilized, and kept in an animal hospital
Man’s best friend deserves better, from the human race
I’ve also seen many wild animals in total panic, on the Fourth
Like a mother duck and her babies, frantically racing, everywhere
Animals just can’t comprehend, that we enjoy all this deafening noise
To most of us, it’s a joyous celebration; to them, it’s traumatizing terror
Please Safeguard Your Own Animals,
This Coming Fourth of July Holiday;
Many of Us Will Be Extremely Busy,
Chasing After The Terrified Runaways.
The Very Lucky Ones, End Up At A Shelter,
Or, Are Returned Home, By Those Who Care;
The Very Unfortunate Ones Are Lost, Or Run Over,
Please Help Any Distressed Pet, You Spot Out There.
