We left them behind, by the thousands
Before Katrina, to fend for themselves
And today, we are doing it, once more
Leaving them in a foreclosed home hell
Every week now, I hear another horror story
About another pet, that has been left behind
It breaks my heart, and it saddens me no end
That our species, can be so callous and unkind
Three dead cats, found inside someone’s foreclosure
A loyal family dog chained, and left behind. in the yard
A dog and a cat, huddled in a dark basement, barely alive
How can our human hearts and souls, be so horrifyingly hard
A friend of mine is a realtor, who now relays his horror stories
About the abandoned pets he and his co-workers find, every day
So many of them spend agonizing weeks, without any food or water
I just cannot comprehend, how we human beings, can behave this way
It is bad enough that we now dump our once treasured animal friends
In city parks, in forests, on farmland, in deserts, and by the sides of roads
But how in heaven’s name, can we be, such diabolical, uncaring, monsters
That we leave them behind, without food or water, in our abandoned homes
The lucky ones are found by someone, before hunger and thirst, kill them
But the look of sadness and betrayal in their eyes, always makes me weep
They just cannot comprehend, how the humans they loved, did this to them
And I very sadly wonder how anyone who leaves them behind, can even sleep
If there are any foreclosed homes, in your neck of the woods,
Please attempt to determine if they contain any left behind pets;
More and more people are now walking away from their mortgages,
And there is no sign of relief for these abandoned, starving animals yet.
And Please Consider Adopting,
A Foreclosed, Left Behind, Dog or Cat;
Our Nation’s Shelters are All Overflowing,
They Need Our Help, No Doubt About That.

While reading this I felt everything from anger, to emphathy to sympathy. What is even sadder is people treat other people as badly.

I had trouble reading this, because of the tears in my eyes. It breaks my heart also to hear of these things. People think I'm crazy because I take in every stray cat I see, but if not me who else will take care of these things. We all have to have that mentality, it is our responsibility to help creatures that can't help themselves. Nothing angers me more than a person abusing an animal. If they have to leave, they need to find that animal a home. Would you leave your child behind? Thank you for this write.

Do people like that ever deserve to ever live in a home again? Where is the law in all this, again the story isn't it, they're just animals, definetely more innocent than children when they grow up, like these so called homo neglectus.
