I got a call from a police officer
About a dog, dumped in the park
A frightened, starving, all alone, soul
Who will only show herself, after dark
The first time that I saw her, my heart broke
She’s been on her own, an awfully long time
Another victim of cruelty, abuse, and neglect
Yet most today, don’t even see this as a crime
Several people have tried to catch this night shadow
But she races off in terror, from every human being
So many cast-a-ways, are now so wary of mankind
Some say, she’s been out here all alone, since spring
We’ve decided that we’ll now attempt to trap her
Trapping was the only way I caught my little Jack
We’ve been leaving food for her, in the same spot
Hoping that this tiny, terrified shadow will be back
It took me quite some time, to trap our now very happy Little Jack
But once I did, he learned to trust again, with compassion and love
I hope we’re as fortunate, with this waif that we’re calling ‘Shadow’
I pray that she lets us help her; we could use a little help from Above
And, I just learned about another night shadow,
Another forgotten dog, on the other side of town;
Today, in our society of apathy, neglect, and abuse,
There are far too many of these night shadows around.

What a compassionate man you are. In my case, I keep finding cats homeless and alone.
But, any living doesn't deserve abuse or neglect. I don't understand. How can people be so cruel. Thankfully, there are people like you.

If a child was set out in the wild like that, surely the cops would find the culprit, why is it that an innocent animal does not receive the same treatment. Our value system is surely screwed up, stewards my ass, except for you, and a few other angels, bless ya Ed!
