‘National Shelter Appreciation Week’
Without America’s 4,000 animal shelters
The plight of pets would be even more bleak
Our abysmal economy has been devastating for pets
Almost 8 million dogs and cats today, are homeless
So many of them, being cared for at animal shelters
Which are overflowing, yet attempting to do their best
America’s animal shelters are woefully underfunded
They desperately need more staff, and more volunteers
They need many more donations, and more pet adoptions
To prevent many more homeless pet euthanizations this year
Every animal shelter in America now has a ‘Priority Wish List’
Of types of supplies, which are desperately needed to continue
Without more support, from far more people in their communities
Far too many lives of today’s abandoned pets will soon be through
