“The richness I achieve comes from Nature,

The source of my inspiration.”

Claude Monet

Everyone in our home was fast asleep

When we heard tapping at our window

“Who could it be, at this ungodly hour?”

My startled spouse now wanted to know

Suddenly, three of our cats were curious

And, all three rushed up to the window

I, myself, jumped up, and I peered out

And what I spotted, really thrilled me so

“Sweetie, come take a look at our visitor,

He’s a most handsome feathered fellow;

A tiny, tapping, Downy Woodpecker,

Putting on quite an early morning show!”

And soon, as two humans and three cats peered out

Our tiny visitor now began fluttering from tree to tree

He called and he tapped, and he called and he tapped

And his very early morning show, was absolutely free

“It really seems like he’s trying to get our attention;

I wonder what he wants?” my spouse eventually said

Suddenly, our tiny, tapping, visitor flew to our feeder

Where he now sat, looking at us, and bobbing his head

I began smiling at our tiny tapper’s early morning antics

Now knowing exactly what he was trying to communicate

“Our tiny tapper wants me to get up, and give him breakfast,

I just realized I forgot to replace the already eaten suet cake!”

Everyone in our home was fast asleep,

When we heard tapping at our window;

“Who could it be, at this ungodly hour?”

My startled spouse had wanted to know.

Like Monet, nature always inspires me,

This early morning visitor was a delight;

The smallest of America’s woodpeckers,

And a truly enchanting caller at first light.

Sounds like the host was asleep at the switch. Lucky he didn't bring some enforcers along. My eaves right now bear holy evidence of his big brothers. Tried fake owls but they are not impressed. Patrick

Little ones know the right house to go to, where the true heart is...yes, of course it's about food, but it's about more, of that Ed, I'm sure.

A beautiful write Ed. This note to Walt, though. You would be surprised by what you see in the city. The squirrels are overrunning us.
God bless,

Living in the mountains I see the animals differently. I am in their habitat now. I get to see their natural behavior in ways that you never get to see in the city.

Yes, you heard him, you are very clever for you speak animal, wonderful, that some of us understand their language is a gift from angels, and a deep far away knowing, that John wrote about this morning.
The lady downy in the nature comes to my hand to eat, for the first few month she would only look at me from the side of a tree, and after calling her all kinds of wonderful names, how beautiful she was(typicall lady) then finally relented and paid a visit to my palm, and now just this week she was there again. Your sentiments reach my heart Ed, I know how you feel, it is a real gift to appreciate such as this,that's when I say my prayers of thanks. Bless you!
