“I'm gonna wait ‘til the midnight hour,

That's when my love comes tumblin down;

I'm gonna wait ‘til the midnight hour,

When there's no one else around.”

Wilson Pickett,

In The Midnight Hour

My wife and I were headin home

From an enjoyable late evening out

Listenin to the oldies on the car radio

The road was empty, no one else about

Suddenly, a dark shadow directly ahead

It looked like a lone wolf in the moonlight

I stopped the truck and she crawled right in

My wife told her everything would be alright

We drove her back to our old backyard

And gave her some fresh water and food

She stopped trembling, after about an hour

Wrapped in a blanket, now in a better mood

At first light, I could tell she was an old dog

Later in the morning, we drove her to our vet

Thankfully, they now discovered her microchip

The very best ‘lost dog’ identification device yet

By midmorning, she was reunited with her family

Their beloved old Midnight, had wandered away

A twelve-year old beauty, who’d become very lost

We got lots of doggy kisses, before we drove away

My wife and I were headin home,

From an enjoyable late evening out;

Listenin to the oldies on the car radio,

The road was empty, no one else about.

Suddenly, a dark shadow directly ahead,

It looked like a lone wolf in the moonlight;

I stopped the truck and she crawled right in,

My wife told her everything would be alright.

A wonderful tale for an Advents Sunday evening (for me), but an even more wonderful tale for the Midnight dog who got reunited with her worried family! Wilson Pickett fits in nicely here. Well done, Mr. Ed.

I love a happy ending. We used to have a black Lab named Maddie. She grew old and is now in that doggie heaven in the sky.
God bless,
Lew
