The New Year of 2011, has begun so very ominously
With an awful lot of death, in Earth’s skies and waters
Have we now horribly skewered ‘The Balance of Nature’
How many more innocents may now be headed for slaughter
First, 5,000 dead red-winged blackbirds in Arkansas
Then, thousands of dead Drum, in the very same state
Soon afterward, further south, in the state of Louisiana
Five hundred more black birds, met a most gruesome fate
Today, millions of dead fish found in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay
And, many more dead birds, are now being reported, out in Sweden
At the same time, more massive ‘Fish Kills,’ are now being documented
Way down in South America, and as far off as down under in New Zealand
At first, New Year fireworks were being blamed for all these horrible bird deaths
But now, some are saying it’s chemical pollution or ‘imbalance in our environment’
If we very sadly add all of the dying bats and bees, and the devastating Gulf oil spill
I would very sadly have to conclude that we modern day humans are hastening the end
And when we factor in our carbon emissions, deforestation, and destruction of natural habitat
Many of our Earthly neighbors will most likely become extinct within the next fifty short years
As I sadly ponder all the death and destruction we’ve been wreaking on this planet of ours
I also wonder how many of us even care, and how many will even now, shed one single tear

Many of our Earthly neighbors will most likely become extinct within the next fifty short years...
Actually after analyzing the weather charts for that weekend, this one is more likely an indirect effect of 2010's extreme weather defintely related to Climate Change. So man's hand is in there again but indirectly. And to change the mind of all those deniers about our influence on Climate is the hardest thing. Especially in America. They are such "know it alls" - so sure they know more than the Climatologists and scientists with phd's and years of research. I can't stand their attitude on Yahoo.
But, my theory on this one (may not be the truth but here goes) The same extreme weather system that caused the Killer Tornadoes in Kansas and MO that weekend may have at least been a factor in the Redwind deaths. They were shown to have died from blunt trauma, which is likely if they were caught up while migrating as a flock in the type of severe Meso-scale Storm systems we had that caused the unseasonable Tornado outbreak. They would have been violently knocked into each other and could have been carried high in the atmosphere for hundreds of miles off course, northward from the Gulf shore areas.
Anyway, the Fish I'm not sure of but with seeing the incredible Damage here in the Ocala Forest from the record-breaking extreme early season HARD_FREEZES, I can say that Climate Change is taking its toll quickly on our wildlife and flora. Especially the tropic sensitive plants that cannot take 2 years of these types of extremes. In 2010 we had over 2 dozen hard freezes (including this last few weeks of Decemeber) and then in the Summer, right here in Central Florida (Ocala) we had a record-breaking 30+ days of recorded heat over 100 degrees. I was miserable myself and it cost me much money! This was followed by the driest summer ever recorded in my neck of the woods. We had no measurable rain since mid August to December, unheard of in Florida's wet season months of Aug/sept.
Why, the negative N.A.O. has been warped out of shape (the polar jet stream) by Global Warming dynamics. Tell that to the "red-neck" know it alls who can't do any thinking on the paradoxes of CLimate Change.
It is real and it is happening and man has already changed the course of large scale synoptic systems that effect climate. But you can't tell that to the block-heads who will run out and vote for the deniers...

Extreme weather is here to stay and it kills...
SOUNDS LIKE THE 'POWERS THAT BE' NEED TO 'SLAP THE KNUCKLES' OF THE CHEMICAL FUMING CORPORATIONS AGAIN?
DON'T ACTUALLY 'STOP' THEM - JUST APPEASE THE PUBLIC - THROW A LITTLE 'BONE!'
