Another extremely sad telephone call
About yet three more homeless canines
“They are living in a garbage-strewn lot,
We think they have been there, a long time.”
And when I got there, I was filled with sadness
A ragged old Rottweiler and two beat up Chows
These three band of brother homeless street waifs
Living under an abandoned car, surviving somehow
And I could tell that this wasn’t going to be easy
All three of them had human distrust in their eyes
The two beat up Chows quickly hid in the shadows
But the ragged old Rottweiler was a pleasant surprise
This abandoned boy must have once had a loving home
It didn’t take him long at all, to appreciate our attention
He was soon, safely inside one of our pet rescue vehicles
But it was a much different story for his two Chow friends
They had obviously been living on the mean streets, a long time
They had obviously been abused and tormented, by uncaring man
Since they found it very hard to believe, that we were there to help
It took lots of sweet talk and treats, before we got them into the van
And the female Chow looked like she had very recently given birth
But the day ended well, with all three street orphans, now in our care
All three have been safely transported to some very caring foster parents
But I very sadly know, that there are many more like these three, out there
Of course, none of these three homeless canines had been spayed or neutered
A neighbor in the area told us that all of their malnourished offspring, had died
While only a few miles down the road, at another abysmal Puppy Mill pet store
Many people still fork out huge amounts, and purchase their puppies, all the time
I get lots of e-mails these sad days from pet rescuers, all across our vast nation
Who are so desperately attempting to help the homeless animals, in their locales
If you have some extra time, please consider joining rescue groups in your area
The number of homeless pets today is staggering – they all need many more pals
