After about six days of good old TLC
Kind words, thick blankets, and food
The traumatized, distrustful, Trucker
Was finally, in a more trusting mood
Finally, he would follow me around
Finally, his skinny tail, began to wag
Finally, he began to relax, a little more
And soon, my spouse could really brag
She soon claimed it was her fried chicken
I believe, it was her gentle voice and touch
Finally, abused and abandoned, Mr. Trucker
Now began enjoying being petted, very much
Six days earlier, he had cringed in absolute terror
When any raised human hand, had headed his way
Finally, he now allowed me, to put a leash on him
And so, I took him for a marvelous walk, yesterday
Our most compassionate dog pack leader, old Turbo
Even allowed Trucker to have one of his squeak toys
Mr. Trucker is not exactly sure what to do with it yet
But maybe just sleeping with it, has brought a little joy
Today, we can now drive him to the animal hospital
Today, we know that he won’t snarl and bite, in fear
Today, we’re very hopeful that he’ll get another chance
Today, for Mr. Trucker, we both shed a few joyous tears
When I trapped Jack, it took him several days to come around
When I'd trapped terrified little Lupita, it took her, about three
Trucker was so sadly distrustful, I thought it would take forever
But I also believe, canines are far more forgiving, than you or me
Properly trained,
Man can, and should be,
Dog’s best friend.
