As someone who has always been around canines
I know that they think we humans, are often dumb
I have had several dogs, who have smiled quite often
Especially when they thought that my foibles were fun
My extremely warped sense of humor Schnauzer mix, Pepper
Would excitedly dance all around, whenever I climbed the roof
She always seemed to sense, when a ladder mishap would occur
And she would smile as if to say, “I can’t wait for your next goof!”
Her biggest smiles came, when I was up on the roof, cleaning off snow
The ladder soon slipped, and I came crashing down, into our living room
She had an enormous grin on her face, while joyously prancing all around
She kept racing to my side smiling, immensely enjoying my crash and boom
Today, old Turbo Dog, our pack leader, very often has a smile on his face
As he humorously watches me cleaning out litter boxes, or shoveling snow
He just can’t seem to contain himself as he soon grins from ear to shaggy ear
And if he could talk, I’m sure he would delight in shouting out, “Ho, Ho, Ho!”
And some days when nothing humorous is going on, and he begins to get bored
He will walk up to my spouse, with an extremely sad look, on his frowning jowls
Of course, she quickly feels sorry for him, and he has already trained her to scold me
And soon, she inevitably shouts out, “Do something idiotic for old Turbo, right now!”
