What a very sad life, old Trucker must have had
The vet believes that he’s about twelve years old
Forced by our human cruelty, to fend for himself
Traumatized, abused, starving, left out in the cold
When I first trapped him, he didn’t trust me at all
The vet and I both believe, he was severely abused
Most likely chained somewhere, and routinely starved
But sad tales like Trucker’s, very rarely make the news
When he’d arrived at that truck yard, he could barely walk
By the bruises on his legs, we also think he was hit by a car
I sadly wonder, if the driver of that vehicle, even noticed him
I sadly wonder, if he had to force himself onward, and how far
It has been three weeks now, since I managed to catch him in that dog trap
He has gained five pounds, and his trust in my wife and I, is now on the rise
Since we can’t find a suitable home for him, we’ve decided to keep him here
Our pack of former street waifs has welcomed him, which to me, is no surprise
We don’t know how much time that abused old Trucker has left in this world
But for as long as he remains, he won’t lack for food, shelter, or a gentle touch
There are many abandoned pets just like Trucker, out there, hoping for a chance
Please consider helping just one – a little compassion these days, means so much
