Believe It or Not, This Actually Began,

As a Sentimental Valentine’s Day Poem;

As My Spouse and I, Stood Hand in Hand,

This Morning, In the Backyard, of Our Home.

“Spring was waiting for us,

And it ran one step ahead,

As we followed in the dance.”

Richard Harris,

MacArthur Park

Only about two very short, frigid, weeks ago,

We were deluged, with over 20 inches of snow;

So, we constructed several snowmen, in our yard,

Now, my love was so sad, having to watch them go.

After several days of working so very hard, on all their accessories,

My true love had grown very fond, of these, our backyard snowmen;

She had lovingly given each and every one of them, their very own names,

And now, her heart was breaking, as they began melting away, to their end.

I didn’t think that she would be able to take it,

‘Cause it had taken so long for us to make them,

And tomorrow, she would never see them again.

Oh, No, Oh, No…

Even worse, our devilish mutts were now all beginning to salivate,

Because their huge carrot noses, were now already beginning to thaw,

And my love soon wept, seeing a snowman’s nose, devoured in their jaws.

Oh, No, Oh, No, Oh, No…

And now, I was attempting to console my soul mate,

Telling her that there would be another dream for us;

There would most surely be, yet another dream for us,

And someone, or something, would bring it, this Spring.

But she very quickly changed her melancholy tune,

When she soon spotted some dog poop peeking out,

From under her now swiftly evaporating snowmen.

Oh, No, Oh, No, Oh, No, Oh, No!

So, she now abruptly ordered me to begin ‘Pooper Scooping’

Because our backyard, would now very quickly, be awash in it,

As the once lovely, now evaporating snow, had hidden it so well.

Oh, No, Oh No, Oh No, Oh No, Oh, No!

She had decided that she wouldn’t be able to take this rapid meltdown,

Because our backyard was now turning a very putrid, mushy brown,

So she raced inside very fast; and now, she was nowhere to be found.

Oh, No, Oh, No, Oh No, Oh, No, Oh No, Oh, No!

“Hey Sweetie, I could really use some big time help from you, out here!”

“Sorry, I’m cleaning the house; you are responsible for the yard, Dear.”

So, This May Be The Last Time, That I Will Ever Feel Sorry For Her,

There Is Now A Yard Full of Scooper Work Ahead, All Around My Feet,

And, The Weatherman Says It’s Getting Warmer - No More Snow or Sleet.

Oh No, Oh No, Oh No, Oh No, Oh No, Oh No, Oh, No…

Ed, I have found One of life's many metaphors to be: Beauty often conceals an abundance of ugliness. All that beautiful snow is little more than Mother Nature's lipstick and rouge.

WOW! Great writing and super sounds!

My only request is that the letters be bigger for us folks who are going half-blind.

I enjoyed every word! Hope you had a GREAT V- Day. Stay warm!

Hahaha! Cute Valentine's Day story, Ed! While the snowpeople are definately adorable.....I'm sure your wife will get over the loss once the flowers start peeking up through the sun-warmed soil once again, and nature's symphony returns to your backyard.....enjoyed!

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. Soon there will be green leaves on the trees and daffodils blooming. The rose bushes will come alive and the snowmen will have their rebirth through all these.
Cheer up, my friend.

OMG this is hilarious!!! Yep, the snowmen are melting and you are in deep doo doo. My freezer is loaded with ....snowballs!
yes, my children think ahead. Some of these balls are from last year. I have not the heart to melt them, so occasionally we snowball fight in the family room.
Enjoy the muddy rugs...I know I'm going to ;-)
