I Needed a Little Break,

From ‘Pooper Scoop’ Duties;

And Stories About My Brother,

Always Provide A Little Comedy

“I stare out to sea,

Looking for myself, me;

Am I lost and unfound,

Have I now run aground?”

A.D. Member Ed Matlack,

From His Recent Poem,

-I Am That Seagull-

Our dear old mother had just visited me again

She was so awfully traumatized, and looking pale

“Pee Wee, what is wrong with your brother now,

Just look at this picture he just sent me in the mail.”

“Wow, Ma! I really can’t believe that he did that,

I never thought he would perch there, butt-naked;

For some reason, he recently decided he was a bird,

And he was even telling people to call him ‘Seagull Ed.’

“I really hope that he gets over this fantasy soon,

Or, that he at least remembers, to wear his shorts;

When he was about four, he thought he was a whale,

Spouting milk from his nose, with loud, god-awful snorts.”

“And, do you remember back when he was about eight, Ma?

For at least a few months he really thought he was a dragonfly.”

“Oh, I certainly do, Pee Wee, and I had to watch him all the time,

He would flutter all around the house, constantly attempting to fly.”

“Well, if he’s content to just stand there, looking out to sea,

I guess his ‘Seagull Phase’ will probably be pretty harmless, Ma.”

“I sure hope you’re right about him staying out of trouble, Pee Wee,

Leaving the house forgetting to wear his pants, reminds me of your Pa!”

PS: In A Later Poem, He Thinks That He’s Sponge Bob Square Pants;

Perhaps When Spring Arrives, He’ll Decide That He’s Actually an Ant.

Actually, I'm discovering thanks to some very vivid poetry on AD including of course your very own gifted writing, that butts are as unique as our faces. Please, more of this?

I for one am glad he can't fly. In Monterey on the wharf I was once "decorated" by a passing seagull. Patrick

I've always noticed that he was a little "off center," but I've never considered him "square." Then again, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Nice job, Ed.

Thanks Dick

Ed,

Your brother sounds a bit odd, but each to their own! Like you, said, 'harmless'. Great poem.
