Another Very Humbling Revelation,
After Just Learning That We Humans
Are: The Smelliest Creatures on Earth

Astronomers and scientists have completed a new census
Of planets which are just in our own ‘Milky Way’ Galaxy
They have now calculated, that there are at least 50 Billion
This number is truly mind-boggling, in many different ways
And now, based on this astronomical number, they estimate
That at least 500 million of these 50 Billion, may support life
I have never believed that we Earthlings, were ‘the only ones’
And, this latest calculation, has now finally convinced my wife
And, to put all of this into some sort of cosmic perspective
They are only talking about one Galaxy, in the vast Universe
They now estimate, that there are at least 100 Billion Galaxies
Just thinking about this, leaves one grasping for the right words
We human residents of Earth, are but a miniscule part, of just one Galaxy, among 100 Billion
One tiny, insignificant Galaxy we call Milky Way, which has about 500 Million other Planets
I don’t know about you, but with these numbers, I can’t believe we are the center of anything
And, it makes me wonder about Human Ego & Self-Importance, routinely taken for granted

That's why I laugh, while researching and writing my recent novel: THE GOLDEN FLUTE, that man named himself "wise-man" (home sapiens sapiens)! And, I also was struck with this irony, (and Carl Sagan's famous and now virtually confirmed opinion) so that on the cover of my NEW 2010 CD: "Unrequited" I included a graphic of his famous "PALE BLUE DOT" photo from the Voyager - in which our beautiful blue water world is seen from 6 billion miles away in space. I believe Carl named that photo. My song "My Bluewater Day" sought to confirm how rare our world is!
But I am thinking how "precious" OUR WATER WORLD IS - and that for sure we MUST realize that no matter how many other habitable worlds are out there (probably many) WE ARE TRAPPED here for now and probably all the foreseeable future.
WE SURE AS HELL BETTER TAKE CARE OF IT! (but I don't need to tell you that...)
