The lives of insects have always fascinated me
I’ve watched caterpillars, morph into butterflies
And lately, I’ve been observing an abandoned dog
Transforming into a new being, before my very eyes
When I first spotted Trucker, he was just skin and bones
A walking skeleton, lurking in the shadows of a truck yard
His existence had been a nightmare – no food, shelter, or love
Each day and night, a struggle - simple survival, extremely hard
Old Trucker has been with us now, for the better part of two months
And, his miraculous metamorphosis, has truly been a wonder to behold
His emaciated form filling out, his fur coat acquiring a lustrous new sheen
And the windows to his soul, his two eyes, no longer appear vacant and cold
It seems, that in addition to his body, his canine heart is now also being transformed
Its past feelings of desperation, loneliness, and despair, now all seem to have vanished
They are miraculously being replaced with new hope, new joy, new trust, and new love
A metamorphosis such as this one, for every abandoned pet in America, is my ardent wish
The lives of insects have always fascinated me,

My ardent wish these very sad days of pet abandonment,
Is that I could help many more like Trucker, to transform;
So please listen to your own hearts, and to their dire plights,
