The Flip Side to My Anniversary Ode ‘One Night in Tahoe,’

But After 18 Years, Still an Adventure, Wherever We Go

“Bears keep me humble;

They help me to keep the world in perspective,

And to understand where I fit on the spectrum of life.”

Wayne Lynch

Music: Happy Trails To You

We were joyously traipsing down to the lakeshore

When my spouse yelled out “Yuck! What’s That?”

I stopped in my tracks, and I excitedly examined it

“That my Dear, is some extremely fresh Bear Scat!”

“Oh, My God! We better get out of here, right away!”

She very nervously said, as I laughed, and I told her to relax

“It is spring time, and bears are coming out of hibernation,

Look at all the fur and all the twigs in this fresh pile of Scat!”

“What?! Only you would even want to examine an animal’s crap,

I say we should get the hell out of here, no matter what you say!”

“But Sweetie, this is fascinating stuff, about the Wonders of Nature!”

But I doubt she will even remember what I told her next, this spring day

“Ever wonder how a bear can hibernate an entire winter, without pooping?

It’s because before hibernation, they eat leaves, and pine needles, and hair;

In essence, they create a very unique ‘Bear Plug,’ that lasts all winter long!”

But alas, I believe that this nature lesson fell on deaf ears, she obviously didn’t care

“That’s all quite fascinating, but I want to head back up to the cabin, right away!”

At least I have this neat photograph, and maybe I’ll get her to appreciate it, some day

Bears keep me humble;

They help me to keep the world in perspective,

And to understand where I fit on the spectrum of life.

(And, Alas, So Does My Wife.)

I was going to suggest that you pass the bear plug info on to Jasmin to help him with his dream issues, but I see he already checked in. Patrick

Bears are very unigue and fascinating creatures for sure, I remmeber walking in my bil's cultivated blueberry fields where at night they would sit on a mound and literally eat every berry in a circle around them.

When Ma did want me in for dinner,
You did track me sniffin' at my poop,
Then after you dragged me home, all I got was soup,
Ma was tryin' she said to keep me thinner...

Where do you learn this stuff?? Fascinating. Sometimes you remind me of that old kids TV program "Mr. Wizard" LOL

Hi Dan,

I've been fortunate enough to see several bears over the years out in the wild, and they usually steer clear of man, if they can. The only times they have followed me are when I've been carrying freshly caught fish through the woods. And when that's happened, I've quickly tossed them a few, and then quickly headed on my way!

And Hi La Belle,

Thanks, I loved old Mr. Wizard!!

And just what would you do if Papa Bear, Mama Bear or Baby Bear came up on you...while you examined their poop? My fears would be a stinky situation...just guessing.

Cheers,
Dan
