The Third Poem in My Current Series
On Today’s Horrific Water, Air, and Land Pollution

Strawberry Fields, Forever
Living is easy, when we all now close our eyes
To what is so horridly happening on our planet
As we now poison even the very food we all eat
Living in a dream world, taking ‘life’ for granted
As we horrifically pollute our waterways, with garbage
And, we allow the air we breathe, to rain down mercury
We now allow the use of toxic, cancer causing, pesticides
To be sprayed on today’s food crops, like these strawberries
The world’s largest Agro-Chemical Corporation is now extremely happy
They lobbied our elected officials, for expanded use of deadly carcinogens
Which are extremely profitable, like methyl iodide, and they got their ‘OK’
So on strawberry fields in California and Florida, they now spray without end
Like the chemicals being dumped into our lakes, rivers, streams, and oceans
And, the extremely toxic, life-ending, mercury poison, wafting through our air
Big Business and our elected politicians, now hope not very many of us even notice
That the food we now ingest is also extremely toxic – and life goes on, without a care
Living is easy, when we all now close our eyes,
To what is so horridly happening on our planet;
As we now poison even the very food we all eat,
Living in a dream world, taking ‘life’ for granted.
Despite enormous scientific protest (from more than 50 scientists all across the nation, including five Nobel Laureates), in the final days of the Bush Administration, our ‘leaders’ approved the national use of Methyl Iodide - ‘one of the most toxic chemicals on Earth’ - on our food crops, because of massive lobbying efforts by the largest pesticide corporation in the world, which is now making tons of money from it.
These opposing scientists stated: “Methyl Iodide is difficult, if not impossible, to control.” They expressed their dire concerns for farm workers, for communities surrounding these Methyl Iodide sprayed fields, for the food itself, for the massive toxic contamination now very likely to seep into our ground water system, for wildlife and birds, and for our national Public Health. And, they have been largely ignored:

So that book, 1980 and we still haven't learned. Are we gonna let these corporates push us to the brink of nutritional disease and starvation? How sad from what good be the greatest food basket of the world...

Does anyone in control - i.e. Congress, Administration, Governors, etc. actually remember when all agricultural activity was Balanced with Nature? ORGANIC farming, COW MANURE was the natural fertilizer used to promote crop growth.
Now, such organic food has a Premium placed on it, and costs more! But those that are Vegetarians KNOW this, and avoid the POISONED crops!
