I have been extremely fortunate
On many a full moon in the wood
I have seen some wondrous sights
So many memorable, so many good
A majestic night hawk, soaring high above
A mother black bear, and her tiny offspring
A moose, peering at me from the thick brush
I never know what the next full moon may bring
This particular full moon I was wandering a marsh
I was hoping to catch a glimpse, of something wild
And there he was, perched at the very edge of the water
He looked at me, I looked at him, and very soon, I smiled
For several seconds, I could tell he was considering flight
But he soon decided that I meant no harm, and it was OK
He looked at me, I looked at him, and now, I smiled again
This memorable full moon encounter had now made my day
He was a fairly large male Red Fox, out for an evening drink
I was extremely happy to see that he appeared in good health
Now we both perched there for several minutes in silent company
Then he turned and sauntered away, as I now whispered ‘Farewell’
Native Americans had referred to this June Full Moon as ‘The Berry Moon’
Since the red and blue berries, were now ready for picking, in the northland
I’d eaten several of these wild berries, and I’d met a marvelous marsh resident
Thinking back on it this morning, this year’s Berry Moon, had truly been grand
I have been extremely fortunate,
On many a full moon in the wood;
I have seen some wondrous sights,
So many memorable, so many good.
