“He is richest who is content with the least,

For content is the wealth of nature.”

Socrates

The Great American Backyard Campout

What a fabulous night out under the stars

Both humans and canines truly enjoyed it

And we surely hadn’t had to travel very far

I had prepared our little backyard campsite with care

Our meal and our campfire, we all thought were great

As usual, I was ready, with all sorts of campfire stories

For these tales, I knew my spouse and dogs couldn’t wait

The night was warm, calm, and filled, with millions of stars

Our camp setting, so mesmerizing, soul-soothing, and serene

Dawn finally broke, with the hint of a wondrous day to follow

Songbirds serenaded us, the grass glistened with a dewy sheen

There is something so marvelous, in being 'in tune' with nature

‘Back to Basics’ is a mindset that beckons us, more and more

We had all enjoyed this overnight backyard camping get-a-way

And, it was only several feet away from our very own backdoor

The Great American Backyard Campout,

What a fabulous night out under the stars;

Both humans and canines truly enjoyed it,

And we surely hadn’t had to travel very far.

"The Great American Backyard Campout/What a fabulous night out under the stars..." AMazing how much we have in common; one of my fondest memories is that last time i did this at my sister's in Vermont (or near the last). We had a campfire on her hillside and watched the stars come out, listened to the hooting of the owls, talked quietly late into the night; then slept in my tent and awoke at night to hear strange animal sounds I've never heard before.
Sad I am to say: that was summer of 1983! What hsppened. The next year, 1984 my "last of freedom before dialysis" I lived in JUNE in a log cabin in Cummington, Mass. and recorded all this music called RAIN MUSIC, you can hear a FREE MP3 of it on my AD poetry page tonight called "CLOUDS by Moonlight" TRUE NATURE MUSIC I began with on the piano. NOW, 2011 and all these years spun by and I've never really had that life again! I sometimes think I paid to high a price for my "medical extension on life" and to play this piano that just about everybody ignores... Lately, I want to QUANTUM LEAP back to 1984 in a big awful way, but alas, I'm not that spiritual just yet...
"There is something so marvelous, in being 'in tune' with nature"
I suppose I still am but not in the way I wish...

Check out my poem on AD: "Words More Soft Than RAIN" and hear the piano music: CLOUDS by Moonlight...
Later, loving your campfire tales...Mike
