“The caged bird sings with a fearful trill

Of things unknown, but longed for still;

And his tune is heard on the distant hill,

For the caged bird, sings of freedom.”

Maya Angelou

Northwood nights, are magical

If only I give in, and let them be

Moonlight, provides the answer

As it somehow, sets my soul free

I perch on the lush bank

Of this ancient, silent lake

I gaze at the moonlit water

There is nary a rippled wake

I look to the many stars

In the vast heavens above

I marvel, at all His Creation

Provided so freely, with love

I study the night raptor

Soaring, so high in the sky

Then, I slowly close my eyes

As my soul now attempts to fly

I soon become this bird

If only, in my mind’s eye

And magically, I’m content

To now being, one of its kind

I feel no hatred, greed, or malice

Or any need to dominate this land

Simply being just a small part of it

My winged soaring soul feels grand

I then gaze down upon the tall pines

Standing vigil, along this ancient shore

The view from this magnificent lofty angle

Is one that my soaring spirit now does adore

These days, I now find myself

Circling my new world all night

And when the dawn finally arrives

My soul sings gloriously at first light

Now I watch the dawn’s spirit awakening

As it does, each and every, brand new day

Then I slowly descend, and I shed my wings

And now, I am content, to journey on my way

As I once again wander through this forested realm

I marvel at all the serenity my northwood nights bring

If our immortal souls are truly capable of reincarnation

I now yearn to be a simple and free creature with wings

"I soon become this bird..."
again, your sense of union is palpable, Ed,
for you know the way of natural communion
and spirit and, most striking, is your
continued sense of wonder.

It must be nice to go anywhere ... or to let the sounds of nature take away the cares of the world ... I need to; I haven't had a vacation in 12 YEARS!

Beautiful writing and I love the picture!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Texas, Karen Lynn. :)
