“She was blind, couldn’t hold her head up;
It was cortical blindness, from the heat.
And she was vomiting, having diarrhea.
It was pretty grim;
We didn’t think she was going to make it.”

She was left all alone, in a car at the mall
The Heat Index was, One Hundred Three
Luckily, a passer-by soon called the police
She was nearly dead, and now couldn’t see
“The time, it just got away from me,
I never wanted to leave her that long;
The mall was crowded, with huge lines,
And I never meant to do anything wrong.”
And, this was just one recent horrid incident
Which are happening, all over the nation now
People are leaving, both kids and dogs, in cars
And, the message just doesn’t register somehow
In St. Louis, with posted ‘Excessive Heat Warnings’
Four children and a dog found inside a sweltering car
Their grandmother left them there, while she shopped
“I won’t be gone very long, and I’m not going very far!”
Perhaps, it’s our faulty modern day justice system
In the little dog’s case, her abuser got a $25.00 fine
I wonder how many dogs and children, must suffer
Before we as a nation, make this a significant crime
Please leave your pets at home, in this horrific heat
They’re much better off there alone, than in your car
And, I sadly wonder how many innocents will suffer
With our lame excuses, that produce such horrid harm
If you should spot a child or a pet
Locked inside a sweltering vehicle,
Please Stop to Help, and Dial ‘911’
I sadly know there will be many more,
Before these horrid Dog Days are Done.

leave your pets at home..why take them in a hot car
and subject them to risk of death in an exposed supermarket
parking lot? i'm sorry, but people just don't think
these things through. Christine's right, this is tragic
and unnecessary tragedy.
