I had received another sad phone call
About a homeless little dog, near a store
“She is afraid of everyone; can you trap her?”
I grabbed my dog trap and I was out the door
I learned that she was first spotted a month ago
Living in a field, roaming the store’s lot, at night
“Several people have been leaving her some food,
But she won’t come near us; she is filled with fright.”
I set up my dog trap near a tiny hole in the store’s fence
And I went traipsing through the huge burr-infested field
Walking slowly, carrying several jugs of ice –cold water
Pausing every so often, to spill some, hoping she would see
Her thirst must have been enormous, in this dreadful heat wave
I soon spotted her following after me, eagerly lapping the liquid
I filled a huge bowl with it, and placed it into my trusty dog trap
She couldn’t resist, within only a few minutes, my trap she was in
Now, she trembled in terror, expecting the worst from me
I put her and the trap in my truck, and off we quickly sped
On the way to the animal hospital, I named her ‘Little Lily’
While speaking very softly to her, to calm her fear and dread
Once we arrived in the vet’s office, I opened up the dog trap
And, I very gently placed a leash around her burr-infested head
Abandoned and frightened Little Lily soon gave me several kisses
Sensing the worst was now behind her, with much better days ahead
I bring many of these abandoned street orphans, to this animal hospital
They treat each and every one of these dogs, with such tender loving care
Lily will get a thorough examination, vaccinations, and a much needed bath
And hopefully soon, a loving new home - never again having to live, out there

You have such wonderful compassion, God bless you for your work saving the animals. I feel so bad for any animal out in this heat, but when they have no love, no food, no water its horrible. Thank you for this write and for calling attention to this problem.
