“I like a bit of mongrel myself,

Whether it’s a man or a dog,

They’re best for every day.”

George Bernard Shaw

Today is ‘National Mutt’s Day’

Celebrated, each and every July 31st

It’s always been a holiday in our home

I think Mutts are the best, not the worst

Most of the dogs I’ve had, have been Mutts

Most of them, rescued from the cruel streets

None of them, ever snobbish, or mean spirited

The fact they accept each other, really quite neat

Good old Turbo, is our sage Mutt Pack Leader

He is part Cattle Dog, Rottweiler, and Shepherd

All of our numerous Mutts always follow his lead

In all matters Mutt, his decisions are always heard

Good old Chica Blanca, Female of our Mutt Pack

She’s part Long Haired Chihuahua, and part Spitz

She is so very down to earth, and extremely loyal

She prefers rolling in the grass, to a spa at the Ritz

Good old Little Jack, was abandoned in a city park

He’s part Fox Terrier, Jack Russell, and Rat Terrier

Although small in stature, he has the heart of a Lion

And the soul of a Prankster, under black and white fur

Good old Junior, is a Hurricane Katrina Survivor

He is part Pitt Bull, Retriever, and Coon Hound

Although he may look mean, he is gentle and shy

These days, always at my spouse’s side, he is found

Good old Trucker, the abandoned, abused, truck yard dog

He’s part Hound Dog, Whippet, and some sort of Retriever

Although he wobbles a bit, and he can’t get around very fast

His love for life and gratitude for love, will never be deterred

Today is ‘National Mutt’s Day,’

Celebrated, each and every July 31st;

It’s always been a holiday in our home,

I think Mutts are the best, not the worst.

There are many marvelous mutts,

At shelters, all across our country,

Who are hoping to meet a new friend,

Who can appreciate their fine company.

Ed, It appears as though you have quite a menagerie there .... and they each seem to have their own separate and distinct personality. NICE, I like that. They're so lucky to have wound up in your world.

Good old Rufuz was a mutt, collie, shephard, chow,
And he was the very best dog I ever had, wish I had him now,
So to your dogs from their uncle Jursey, give them a bow,
A pat on the head, and a big fat kiss,
As well give them something tasty like steak from a cow...Jurseeeeeeeey
