-A Happy Follow-Up To My Sad January Poem: ‘His Hell on Earth’-
“Home, the spot of Earth extremely blest,
A dearer, sweeter spot, than all the rest.”
Robert Montgomery
It has been almost eight long months now
Since I found Marty wrapped in an iron chain
On a bitterly cold morning, searching for food
Today, he’s finally home, and no longer, in pain
I will never forget that extremely frigid January day
When I first encountered this forlorn starving Husky
I jumped out of my truck, and I peered into his eyes
The saddest eyes I had ever seen, peered back at me
I released him from those wretched chains around his neck
And now offered him a bit of food that I had in my old truck
He gobbled it down, since he hadn’t eaten in many long days
Then he crawled up into my vehicle, very glad for a bit of luck
He spent many days at the animal hospital, where I take these orphans
He was extremely emaciated, and painful burrs, covered his entire body
When he was finally released, a most compassionate woman fostered him
Today, he has been adopted, and has two brothers, bringing great joy to me
It has been almost eight long months now,
Since I found Marty wrapped in an iron chain;
On a bitterly cold morning, searching for food,
Today, he’s finally home, and no longer, in pain.
