All of our many animals continue to amaze me
With the bonds of friendship, which they form
They care not at all, about another’s differences
They prove to me, true friendship has no ‘norm’
From the day our Chihuahua pups were born
One of our cats, Jesse James, befriended them
These days, the four of them are always together
With an unwavering friendship, which has no end
They follow good old Jesse, all around the house
He so merrily leads them on many a frenzied chase
Lately, he has shown them how to pry open treat jars
The antics of these four always bring a smile to my face
When I cannot find one of my shoes, or my house keys
I know Jesse and his gang, have hidden them somewhere
When I hear a kitchen cabinet being rummaged from inside
I now know old Jesse and his mischievous posse are in there
Their latest ‘fun-time activity’ has Jesse prying open my wife’s dresser
He then delights, in tossing her underwear, down to his waiting friends
The three pups excitedly grab what he tosses, and race under our bed
When my spouse discovers her pilfered drawer, I chuckle without end
And when they tire, after a morning of chasing, cavorting, and hiding
We soon find these three tiny dogs snuggled up in a box, with old Jesse
His purrs are like lullabies, very gently drifting these puppies off to sleep
The nurturing nature of this cat toward his canines, so very wondrous to see
Outlaw Jesse James was once a homeless alley cat,
The pups’ pregnant mother, abandoned in an alley;
The deep bonds of friendship among our animals,
Always still amazes, and brings great joy to me.

That is so adorable and heartwarming! I have no canines but many many felines that do the same thing! Or similar, like the one now who loves this screen and I can't see much but a black cat! God Bless, you Ed for doing so much for homeless animals.
